"History of WAMWORLD.ORG"

The Begining
The inspiration for my original website came from "Wackywet", I found their site at the end
of 1998. "Wackywet" is a great wet clothing site, with forum's, huge galleries and links to other
wet clothing sites. It was through their site that I found my buddy "Twillin". I later thought
it would be an interesting project to create my own website.
My first attempt
My first website was uploaded in March 1999 and was called "Neptunes Wet Clothing Page", it was
of the typical homepage style, but it had some of the basic ideas that would be used later in
WAMWORLD.ORG in particular the 'Story Page'. In case your wondering where 'neptune' came
from, I started collecting email address for the names of planets, and neptune fits in with a
page about watery things. I have re-scanned some of the better photo's from that original site
for use in the new sites gallery.
It's all in the Name
Trying to think of a good catchy name for a site is a big problem "Neptune's wet clothing page"
is a bit long, and not very memorable. Since the new site would not be limited to just wet
clothing "Wam World" seemed like a particularly good name, I was very supprised that it had not
already been used by someone else! I next decided I would have to register a domain name, so in
January 2002 I registered "wamworld.org" since this reflected the non-commercial nature of the
site, for good measure I also registered "wamworld.org.uk". With the new name WAMWORLD.ORG
, the job of building the site began.
Design, Design and RE-Design!
I tried all sorts of different approaches to the page design and layout, I wanted to reinforce
the site name where ever it appeard, so thats where the typewriter font came from.
I also avoided using frames again and instead made extensive use of tables to produce a
consistent page layout. I picked bright colour combinations, which caused me a lot of problems
when I started adding new pages to the site, having to reshuffle all the title bar colours! I
also started to make extensive use of the ISP provided server scripts, to show file dates and
sizes and a random text selection for the contents page photograph.
Into the future...
I'm hoping to update the site regularly and keep a site archive of old material. I'll be trying
some new ideas and possibly get a few short movie files online. The WAMWORLD.ORG domain
name is good for five years, so if the site is successfull and gets a few visitors each month,
I'll try to keep it going, but one thing I have learned is that running a site takes a lot of
time and hard work, it also makes you appreciate the work of the team at Wackywet so a big thanks
to Felix and Stefan and all the Wackywet team.
